a bosque of russian olive
& cottonwood
to wander thru zebra stripes
balancing on fallen trees
shaggy bark torn back
we saw petroglyphs at Abo,
Zuni potsherds on towering El Morro
now we find remnants of
copper smelting & thin shards
of kitchenware
enameled patches of intricate design
white on blue
vanish among the early trails
shield of timeless invisibility
mirroring splashes
sprinkles of solar rain
walking without traces
the only signature being
echoes of laughter
riding the stallion breeze
