Albuquerque Trails

chase lizards in Sandia summer heat
listen to you strumming
fingers on guitar
voice wavering feather soft
defenseless against the desert sky.

walking in the park
lying in the grass
I rub your back & neck
caressing you head.

we play the zither
& sing Donovan songs
drive to the eastern foothills
that have no shape of feet
tho they wear
the prints of cycle treads,
climb to the top of one
sit on a pile of weathered stone
& look across the Albuquerque valley
rio grande green
in humid vapor trails.

later we sit on shaded boulder
my fingers gently touching
your closed eyes.
